Conducting market research essentially means gathering the information you need to improve your business. Market research is the collecting, recording, and analyzing data relevant to selling the goods and/or services you produce.

Doing your own market research isn’t difficult, although it does tend to be time consuming. If you have a small business, you’re probably researching your markets continually unknowingly. When you talk to a customer about what he or she wants, or chat with a supplier or sales rep, you’re conducting market research.

The amount of market research you do is limited only by your time or your budget . But market research is necessary at all stages of a business’s life, if you want continued success. Only market research can truly keep us in touch with what’s most important – our customers, and their needs and desires.
